Fine Art & More

Just what is "fine art" photography? I'm afraid there is no easy answer for that. Adobe, a company considered an industry standard in photo editing software, defines it as "the intentional use of photography as your artistic medium of choice, used to further your conceptual idea." Similarly, wikipedia defines it as "photography created in line with the vision of the photographer as artist, using photography as a medium for creative expression." In both definitions it seems that photography itself is more a means rather than an end, and each definition implies an opening for creative expression rather than a strict adherence to representing reality.

Photography comes in many genres, many of which are overlapping. So when I set out to create a gallery of "fine art" photography, I found it challenging to decide what fit into this rather broad interpretation. Ultimately I settled on some of my photos which employed creative representations of reality, not necessarily ones in which I was simply capturing what I saw but that I was using what I could collect with my camera as raw ingredients to manifest a vision I saw inside my mind.
